CREAW Kenya won the 2022 African Gender Award!

On the 14th of June 2022, SOAWR member, CREAW Kenya, were awarded the GIMAC (Gender is my Agenda Campaign) 2022 African Gender Award in the Civil Society category. The Award recognises their commitment to gender mainstreaming and commitment to achieve gender equality and equity.

They accepted the award in the Nairobi ceremony, alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta who received the African Gender Award 2022 for championing gender equality and development in the country. The award was presented to the president by Ms Benita Diop, the African Union Commission Special Envoy on women, peace and security. The award is anchored on three thematic indices namely HIV index, education index and gender parity index. According to the selection committee, Kenya achieved 11 out of 12 operative articles of the Solemn Declaration on Gender Equality in Africa.

The SOAWR Coalition is proud to congratulate and celebrate CREAW Kenya in this significant achievement and deserved award!

In response, CREAW stated:
“We brought it home!!!! The GIMAC Civil Society Award was awarded to CREAW last evening.

We celebrate each and every person, institution, organisation and champion who made this award possible! This is for you! This award means that more women and girls will be seen, heard and empowered to unlock their full potential and enjoy life in a society that accords them equal opportunities.

This award is an acknowledgement to the economic empowerment programs that we are running which are resulting in giving women opportunities to make decisions, leave abusive homes or start their lives afresh. A vindication that the work we do with psychosocial support, legal aid, shelter support for GBV survivors is an integral part of preventing and responding to the grave practice that is GBV.

We remain committed to champion, expand and actualise women’s and girls’ rights and social justice with power, voice and agency.”

Please join us in congratulating CREAW Kenya and share their achievement:
