Malawi Human Rights Resource Centre (MHRRC)

The Malawi Human Rights Resource Centre (MHRRC) was established in 1997 after a one-year pilot phase by the Danish Centre for Human Rights, with an overall objective of promoting and strengthening a culture of human rights in Malawi. The MHRRC works with state and Non-State actors to effectively support the developing democracy in the country. MHRRC contributes towards the consolidation of channels of free expression and other rights for the citizens by working with and building the capacity State and Non-state actors in areas of Human Rights, Gender and Governance among others.

MHRRC has acquired experience and reputation in project grant disbursement and management; research; training and capacity building in areas of Human Rights, Human Rights Based Approach, Gender, HIV and AIDS and Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights and development of Public Service Charters among others. Through such grants, research and capacity building, MHRRC has been able to support the development of a large number of CSOs in Malawi, some of which have graduated and are now classified as NGOs capable of mobilising and effectively managing resources from donor partners. MHRRC enjoys a strong reputation and goodwill in the CSO and public sectors as an excellent development partner. Through these partnerships, MHRRC has promoted effective human rights programming and advocacy. The belief is that the observance of human rights will in turn promote respect for human dignity, equality and ultimately bring about prosperity for the Malawi nation.

MHRRC is registered under the Trustees Incorporation Act.

Mission Statement: To promote a sustainable human rights culture in Malawi by working with Civil Society Organisations and other institutions through capacity building, resource provision, networking and research, while being guided by the following.
