CREAW Kenya won the 2022 African Gender Award!
On the 14th of June 2022, SOAWR member, CREAW Kenya, were awarded the GIMAC (Gender is my Agenda Campaign) 2022 African Gender Award in the Civil Society category. The Award recognises their commitment to gender mainstreaming and commitment to achieve gender equality and equity. They accepted the award in the Nairobi ceremony, alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta who received the African Gender Award 2022 for championing gender equality and development in the country. SOAWR member, STEWARD WOMEN, has published a policy brief on Policy Dialogue: Peace & Security Key to addressing Justice and Protection needs of Survivors in Jondoru, Juba – South Sudan. Executive Summary: “This policy brief is designed to highlight and address the justice and protection needs of survivors in Jondoru. Survivors noted that peace and security in South Sudan as a whole has the effect of strengthening the resilience of survivors to report violent incidences and seek timely medical, psychosocial and legal protection services, thus creating an enabling environment to address the justice and protection needs of survivors.” Read the

Read an extract below. “The Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA Network) was created by women activists from Somalia, Somaliland, Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan and Eritrea in the mid-1990s. For the past 25 years we have held a unique position working as a feminist regional civil society network operating in the politically volatile contexts of the Greater Horn of Africa. We work through and firmly believe in the collective power of African women.
