AFRICAN CENTRE FOR DEMOCRACY AND HUMAN RIGHTS STUDIES (ACDHRS)

ACDHRS is an independent, Pan African non-governmental organization established by the Gambian government in 1989. Its aim is the promotion and protection of human rights in Africa through the establishment and maintenance of a human rights movement spanning the continent. ACDHRS also seeks to collaborate with, support and encourage the work of partners, through the development and strengthening of effective implementation and use of international standards and instruments.

Togo

Togo signed the Maputo Protocol in December, 2003 and ratified it in Ocotber, 2005.  2012: The Persons and Family Code allows for wives, daughters and sons to have equal inheritance rights but still allows for the application of customary law which can be discriminatory against women. The National Policy on Equity and Gender Equality of 2011 was updated in 2019. Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone signed the Maputo Protocol in December, 2003 and ratified it in July, 2015.  2013-2018: The Agenda for Prosperity, which is a Poverty Reduction Strategy “made provisions for a standalone pillar on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in the National Development Plan”. 2017: National Land Policy, estblished to promote GEWE by increasing women’s access to land and ownership. 2017-2020: National Strategy for Financial Inclusion, aims “to make financial services available, accessible anf affordable for all Sierra Leoneans and MSMEs, and support inclusive and resilient private-sector led growth” . 2010-2013: National Gender Strategic Plan (mid term review in 2012). 2019-2023: National Gender Plan

Senegal

Senegal signed the Maputo Protocol in December, 2003 and ratified it in December, 2004.  2012: Article 7 of the Constitution. Article 7 of the Constitution adopted in 2001, and amended in 2012, includes the following provisions: The human person is sacred. It is inviolable.
